BRA (Breast Reconstruction Awareness) Meetings
This is a Group that operates through St Andrew’s Hospital, Broomfield, Chelmsford, Essex and is a tremendous support to many women at all stages of breast reconstruction and beyond.
Organised monthly the Breast Reconstruction Awareness (BRA) meetings provide an opportunity for you to meet and talk to other women who have already been through the experience. You will be able to see what the surgical outcome looks like for the different reconstructive procedures and the secondary procedures such as nipple reconstruction and nipple tattooing.
The meetings are open to women who are considering immediate or delayed reconstruction and are attended by women who have had various types of reconstruction and are at different stages of their journey.
Meetings are held monthly in an informal and relaxed atmosphere and refreshments are provided. Any female relative or friend is also welcome to attend for support of the patient.
Many women are quite happy to speak openly about their experience and nurses are always on hand to answer any questions about breast reconstruction.
Women need to have time to discuss surgery, to understand and consider the options open to them and to reach an informed decision about the type of surgery appropriate for them. BRA meetings provide an environment in which to learn more about what the surgery entails and what support is available to the patient and their families during and after discharge from hospital. It is an extra source of information in a relaxed and supportive but professional atmosphere.
