From the moment I contacted Mr Ramakrishnan, everything went smooth and felt like this choice was meant to be.
Not only having to face with the shock of diagnosis, living abroad gave me a little choice in the treatment options. As simultaneous reconstruction was not available in the country I am staying, I opted for a private care with the latest technique and best surgeon in the UK. My queries were always answered promptly and thoroughly and Mr Ramakrishnan was always helpful and straight to the points. When I eventually met Mr Ramakrishnan and his team in person, it was very easy to convince myself that I would be in the safe hands.
The team scheduled all the prerequisites for the procedure to be done only one week prior to the surgery so that allowed me to travel out to England as close the date as possible. All the staff at Nuffield Hospital was exceptionally helpful and friendly and all I needed to do was to concentrate on my recovery.
Mr Ramakrishnan is such a caring and gentle person and his attentiveness was very reassuring. I have not regretted my decision and am truly grateful for what he achieved.
In November 2011, I underwent a subcutaneous mastectomy to remove a breast tumor. Unfortunately the implant was exposed after several weeks and it was removed. I had to wear a prosthesis for over a year and this was effecting my self-esteem and confidence. Thanks to my cousin Dr. Charlot Grech , who is a consultant dermatologist in Kent, I was referred through him to Mr Ramakrishnan for a delayed DIEP flap , since in my country , Malta, this type of surgery is not done.
I was very glad when I met Mr Ramakrishnan and he confirmed that I could have the DIEP flap. It’s been a year since now, and no words can express my gratitude towards Mr Ramakrishnan for the good job, care and dedication he delivered to me as a patient. The nurses and medics were very nice, excellent in their profession and caring. I spent 4 days at HDU in Nuffield and was given all the attention a patient requires after a major procedure. I had to stay 4 weeks in the UK to recover but I have no regrets whatsoever.
Thank you again Mr Ramakrishnan for giving me back my woman hood and help me regain my self-esteem. I would like to take this opportunity to encourage other women who are considering undergoing a DIEP flap, to be confident if they choose Mr Ramakrishnan. 4 years ago I received the unfortunate news that I was BRCA 2 positive. After my initial shock my long journey of research into preventative mastectomies and reconstruction began. This journey took me down several long roads. However, it was only on speaking to Mr Ramakrishnan that I knew I was finally on the right road. As a Mum to four small children travelling abroad to have my surgery was a huge decision. Once I met Mr Ramakrishnan I knew it was the only decision for myself and my family. The pre-care and attention I was given was fantastic. Mr Ramakrishnan himself and all of his staff were at the end of the telephone 24/7 and in fact rang me regularly in the weeks leading up to the surgery simply to chat and to talk me through every part of my journey.
At all times, the office and surgical staff were very supportive, friendly, kind and caring. All my questions were answered, and the prior and post-surgical follow-up calls were fantastic. I felt confident I was in good hands with everyone involved in the entire process.
